Title: Captured Miracle

Author: Alannah Carbonneau

Age group: Mature Adult

Genre: Dark Erotic

Release date: 29th May, 2014

Sometimes the darkest of hearts are the most blinding. Not because of their light, but because of their suffocating endlessness. The dark abyss of their possession claims you before you’re even aware of the capture.

Love is not linear. There is no timeline in which the emotion blooms. Sometimes it is a slow succession of events where one soul learns another and sometimes it’s quick. Sometimes it’s like lightning. Possessive.

That’s what Calix was to me. He infused himself within my life – my mind – my body – and my heart. Until he possessed my soul. And then he shattered it all.

The worst part of it all was that he owned me. Completely. And it only took him four days.

What started out as an act of revenge quickly becomes so much more. After years of plotting and two years of watching Nova, Calix takes her. In the dead of the night, three strange men in her room, tugging her from her bed, wake Nova. Terrified of forcing the men to act on their threats to harm her mother and sisters, Nova agrees to allow them to cart her from the safety of her home.

She never expected they would lead her to Calix. A dark and captivating man determined to have her as his wife – and every other way. As Nova tries to keep Calix from pushing his way past her barriers, his determination to capture her heart in the same way he captured her body grows. In his quest for her heart, Calix pushes her past her barriers and tests her every limit.

When her heart softens, the reason for the game of revenge turns very real and Calix is forced to tell Nova just why he took her. Only, the truth will harden the heart that had softened against him.

But Calix still won’t let Nova go.

Until the end of time, she is his.

This is an erotic romance. Captured Miracle is the first novel in what will be a three book series. This novel does end in a cliffhanger.

If you’re familiar with this author’s style of writing and haven’t read the first book in the Captured Miracle Novel #1, you’re going to be in for one hell of surprise. At least I was! I went in completely ignorant to the fact that it’s a dark read. However, I’m not in any hurry to slip it into this genre because rhetorically speaking, it is just too tame for this category. One thing is for sure though, love story it is not.

Quote: “This is my life.” I whispered.
“It was your life, love.” He grinned, but there was no kindness in the action. “You belong to me now.”

Taking into consideration that ninety-nine percent of the dialogue is between the two main characters, and that the whole story revolves around them, made me wonder how on earth the author had managed to keep me stuck to the pages like a limpet. Of course, the reason is quite simple. A good storyline which wasn’t overly dark for my tastes and well written banter. I was a little concerned about the heroine’s persona. Nova is studious, a tad timid, and extremely virtuous. In the safety of her home, the unimaginable happens. She tries to put up a fight but is quickly reprimanded and told by her captor that she’ll put her family in danger if she doesn’t comply. Once they were theoretically out of the firing line, she gives it all she’s got regardless of the consequences. “Go for it gal, go for it!” I said to myself. I really liked her feistiness here and I never thought she’d back down so quickly. Thus, when she did, I was a fairly disappointed in her. Nevertheless, since she was forced into an uncertain existence against her will, I tried my best to put myself in her shoes. And believe you me, how could she not succumb to her abductor?

Quote: “Do your worst. Punish me. Hurt me. F**k me.” More silent tears streamed down my face. “Break me. I. Don’t. Care.”

Calix! My, oh my! How I wish you’d been more of a badass because it would most certainly have suited you. You could have been bossier and you never really showed me your cruel streak which you kept threatening Nova with. In fact, I think you’re a real pushover and Nova’s undeveloped submissiveness clouded her judgement. You had me thinking right up until the last moment what motivated you to do such a thing to this beautiful young girl, but once I learnt, I understood.

Quote: “What do you want with me, Calix?” I whispered shakily, burying my face deeper into his chest. “Why did you take me?”

It is easy to envisage this attractive man; especially with his clothes off! Yes, he does take them off but we have to be patient as it takes a while for Nova to cave in. Laughing out loud folks because it actually took four days, just four days of their time together for their passion to steam up my glass lenses. And the ending, wow! It left me hanging high up on a precipice wishing I had the follow-up at hand. If there was one or two teeny-weeny issues which bothered me in this read, it would have to be the repetitiveness in places and not having Calix’s point of view. Fortunately, the story with it’s fair share of intrigue, outweighs this setback. So Ms. Carbonneau, bravo to you for your not such a dark read!

Fav quote: “I’m seducing your body because I’m not worthy of your heart ~ but worthy or not ~ if you give me the chance, I’ll steal it.”

I live in Alberta, Canada, where the weather is forever changing (without warning). I am engaged to be married in August 2015 to my high school sweetheart and love of my life. There are no children in my life as of right now, but we do have a handful of rambunctious cats (four) and a testy, rescued Shepard/Husky, who take up a lot of my time.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve adored the written word. English was always my favorite class and that may be biased because I can’t count to save my life, so math was a horror! I remember the very first novel I ever read, Shocking Pink by Erica Spindler. It was the most interesting of the covers on my mom’s bookshelf (probably because it was pink) and I was way too young to be reading that novel. But I fell in love. From there, I read almost everything from V.C. Andrews.

My writing started out as poetry, which then evolved to songs, and later into novels. I was never one for the short stories as I found it too difficult to pack everything I imagined into something so small. I now have multiple novels published independently. I write both novels for young adults and novels for adults – all romance.

Despite my favorite younger reading material, I now adore writing and reading all things romance.

Sociopath: Legacy (Sociopath #2) by Lime Craven
Genre: Dark Romance

Reach for the scars…

Remember me? Aeron Lore: happy and humble. A people person. All around nice guy.

Even I can’t say that with a straight face.

But seriously, things are going great. Leo’s behaving herself; I’m enjoying making sure she behaves. We’re a great team. SilentWitn3ss, our live-streaming news project, has launched to my favorite things ever: controversy and profit.

So when the FBI comes to me and wants to use SilentWitn3ss footage to trace a serial killer named Blood Honey, I’m only too happy to be superior—I mean, to help. And if Leo thinks the brutal Blood Honey and I have a few things in common, I guess that’s to be expected, given my rather unique preferences in the bedroom. My…condition.

But I’m not like him. I can’t stand that she would even think it.

If his actions threaten my relationship with Leo, I’ll hunt that fucker down myself.

If he gets too close for comfort, I will make him bleed—and trust me, he’s closer than I ever anticipated.

There’s a food chain, grasshoppers. The buck doesn’t stop with him. It stops with me. Blood Honey is a nasty son of a bitch, but I can be a lot worse. Question is…do I want to be?

Meet the Author

I like dysfunction. Broken people who can’t fix each other, but fit together because they’re missing the same pieces. One of my favourite songs declares, “take the sinner down to feed desire,” and that’s my MO. I write dirty psychological thrillers with strong elements of dark romance.
I love antiheroes. Female characters who don’t just accept their faults, but downright exploit them. No nice boys. No shame. Mindfuckery for all.

The name’s Aeron Lore. And you are…? Such a pleasure to meet you, sweetheart. Is that a southern accent? Gorgeous.
You fucking bitch.
Why so surprised? I control a billion dollar fortune. I control the news. Give me five minutes and I’ll control you, too. If you could read my mind, you’d probably call me perverted. Unnatural. Manipulative. But I’ve learned to blend in, to be funny and charming. A predator in a designer suit.
I have no conscience. No shame in taking the things I want. And what I wanted was for Leontine Reeves to sell me her boutique tech firm so I could exploit the fuck out of it. Maybe exploit the fuck out of her, too, because desire haunts me in shades of scarlet, and I desire Leo most of all.
I never meant for this to be a love story. I fought it kicking and screaming, the same way Leo fought me. Now we’re bleeding into each other, making a mess. A chaos. There’s no control here. And what do monsters like me do when control leaves the building?
We attack.

Dylan Scott is a New York trial attorney, wife and mother of four. She believes her job as a trial attorney is a subcategory to the field of entertainment more than it is law. With a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature she believed teaching English was a destined career choice until she realized her life long talent of “argument” actually could be her job. A recent, fairly boring, midlife crisis resulted in a brief stint as a middle school English teacher which confirmed that she wasn’t ready to give up the law. Dylan has also taught legal courses at the college level and worked with at-risk inner city youth in the roles of mentor and coach. She was inspired to write Less than Perfect after reading all the great works of her Left Behind co-author, Vi Keeland.

Title: Kyland

Author: Mia Sheridan

Age group: New Adult

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release date: 24th January 2015

Reviewed by Donna Elsegood on behalf of Kindle Friends Forever

I was looking forward to reading Kyland as I am a massive fan of the previous works of this author. I had no idea what this story was about, with no synopsis or any clue to the plot.

This is a story told from a dual point of view of Tenleigh Falyn and Kyland Barrett. It starts off when they are seventeen years old living in a poverty stricken coal mining town. They are both striving at school to win the college scholarship from the local coal mining company which only one person can win.

Quote: “Do you know how f***ing rare it is for people like us to get out from under the poverty of a place like this? You have a chance. Take it.”

Tenleigh lives with her elder sister, Marlo and mentally ill mother. She desperately wants to escape the struggles of her life. Kyland has lived through loneliness, starvation and heart-breaking events. Kyland and Tenleigh get to know each other; however, they are well aware of the strong competitive streak between them and conscious of the fact that there is only going be one victor for the grant.

Quote: “How are you going to win the scholarship when I’m going to win the scholarship?”

They secretly don’t want to form any attachments as one will be leaving town and the other will be left behind. It seems to be easier said than done because they become extremely close.

Quote: “He wasn’t the only one with plans to leave here. Why did he even have to register on my radar? God, I hated him.”

This is a story of a deep love, sacrifice and heartbreak. Hope, pain and forgiveness. It is a powerful heart-rending story with some very explicitly described hot scenes. I was totally engrossed and could not put this read down for the life of me! Kyland is definitely a different book boyfriend to what we are normally used to showing selflessness, strength and courage. What I mainly love is the slow build up which others may not. This style of telling the story which the author has used only made me more desperate to know what would happen to them. Would their lives always be a struggle?

Quote: “Love doesn’t keep anyone alive. Food does. Warmth does.”

The story does not stay completely with them as teenagers. We get to see what transpires after their college years and an epilogue that is so so sweet. I liked all the side characters and at times, my emotions were all over the place.

Quote: “God, what did you do? Go to hell. I do. Every day. For you.”

I had tears for some of the powerful dialogue and certain scenes, but there were also some very funny moments, too. The story shows how people with absolutely nothing make the best of what they are faced with, and it also shows money does not buy happiness. I highly recommend this book and I would definitely put my hand on my heart and say this is going to be as successful as Archer’s voice. Any fan of Mia’s would know what an amazing story that was. I certainly look forward to what stories Mia writes in the future.

One of my favourite quotes: “I can’t resist you. I tried. I really did.”

How much is a life worth?

Mariana Rodriguez is the eldest daughter of a Colombian drug lord. Growing up in Villanueva, Colombia, she has never wanted for anything. Private schools, a lavish lifestyle, and the safety of the Cartel that her father works for.

At nineteen, she’s got her entire life mapped out, and what a good life it’s going to be: graduate from college, move to America with the love of her life, and finally be free from the stifling grip of the Cartel.

Only, her father messes up. A shipment of cocaine – a very large, very valuable shipment – is seized by the authorities whilst under his care and he becomes liable for the debt. Half a million dollars’ worth of cocaine.

Half a million dollars he does not have.

But he has a daughter, a very smart one, a daughter who would give up her very existence and offer herself as payment for her father’s sins, to ensure her family survives.
But falling in love with the man who owned her isn’t part of the plan …

‘This isn’t a fairytale,’ Dornan said wryly, as he watched her bring the soup-soaked bread to her mouth.

She paused with the bread in her hand, looking around the room in mock surprise. ‘You mean, we’re not Beauty and the fucking Beast?’

He laughed.

‘Well, you’re certainly beautiful,’ he said.

‘And you’re definitely a beast,’ she countered, pushing her empty bowl away and resting back on the bed.

‘But there’s no happy ever after for you,’ Dornan added, his eyes trailing over the chains to reach the cuffs that were now permanent bracelets on her wrists.

My name is Mariana Rodriguez.

I used to be just like you – a regular girl, with a regular life.

But it was all a lie.

Nothing about my life was normal.

It was all make believe.

It was good, while it lasted.

But now?

Reality’s caught up to my family.

It was always just a matter of time.

Reviewed by Sharon Thérèse Nuttall on behalf of Kindle Friends Forever.

I found the author’s style of writing interesting. The chapters not telling the main protagonist’s story are narrated in third person; the first putting us in the picture. From there on in, chapters telling the heroine’s story are in first person and alternated. It sounds confusing but I can assure you that it isn’t.

Again, we meet up with the Gypsy Brothers. Even though this heinous gang of bikers are well-known for their unorthodox ways in the author’s last series, in Cartel, Dornan is still a relatively young vice president of the motorcycle club. His best friend, John Portand, is president with little or no say in illegal matters and affairs carried out in the club. Why? Because Dornan’s Italian Mafioso father, Emilio Ross, has them by the short and curlies! He might be in the background, but he controls on the sidelines. What he says goes; and if not, there’s always someone to pay with their life. It is clear to see where Dornan inherited his strong streak of sadism from. However, the author has thrown a different light on him here which I’m not sure I cared for.

Quote: “Are you all right? he asked, and I heard genuine concern in his voice. Odd.”

Mariana Rodriguez, better known as Ana, thought she had it all. Young, beautiful and sassy, she gives what she gets with a touch of sarcasm. She’s also well aware that her father is up to no good and his stifling debts could come back to bite him. She never envisaged she would be the one on the receiving end of her father’s carelessness regarding a drug shipment belonging to the Colombian cartel, Il Sangue. The boss, Emilio, wants blood! Who is going to bear the cost? Ana! She will pay the price for saving her family from imminent death by forfeiting her freedom and quite possibly, her life too.

Quote: “I can’t promise you that you won’t beg me to kill you anyway.”

Ana drove me up the wall! One minute she’s courageously battling on and the next minute I could have asked her to stop shilly-shallying around. At the beginning of the story, she comes across as strong and wilful, so when she breaks down and openly confesses her innermost feelings to her captor, I thought, “What the heck!”

Quote: “Her words ran through his head, over and over again, filling him with fear, with wild rage.”

I’m sure it’s a classic case of Stockholm syndrome. All said and done, Dornan has told her it’s going to be a rough ride and what better way to survive than make friends with your enemy. Especially when both of them have something in common.

Quote: “Blood and pain, it was what had brought them together. What would keep them together. And he liked it.”

There is no doubt that this strapping man’s got a screw loose. So when he admits the unimaginable to Ana, I was flabbergasted! I’m not going to spill the beans but I will say that this bad guy cum attentive lover just fell off the pedestal I’d put him on. I felt the author had given up developing his aggressive and vengeful traits that shone in Gypsy Brothers halfway. In fact, not only did I feel a little short-changed, but I will also go as far as saying that there were moments when I quite liked him! And I didn’t want to! Emilio’s character comes over so much better as the baddie. He’s got the whole caboodle tied up very nicely, including a Federal Air Marshal, Murphy. Now here’s a mean machine if ever there was one. Bent as a nine bob note, conniving and makes the word unscrupulous look like a compliment.

Quote: “I would have been so much nicer to you than them.”

All in all, I enjoyed this fairly fast-moving up plot. Although it slowed down a tad in the middle, my attention wasn’t lost and I read it in one sitting. What I shouldn’t have done is the dastardly deed of comparing Cartel with Gypsy Brothers. People change and I think it’s going to be a while before we see Dornan show his true colours. I’m lacking in all the descriptive negative adjectives I love to use to describe dark genre; nevertheless, I’m sure I’ll be able to use them when Kingpin, the second novel in this trilogy is published in July. Bravo Ms. St. Germain for a job well done!

In the Lover’s Game, the author left me hanging by a thread! The twists and turns in a well-thought-out plot not only had me stuck to every page, but also hoping that for once Jett would come clean with Brooke. Mr. Sex on Leg’s is a real charmer. He’s got a deft hand when skirting around the truth and up until now, had a way of convincing Brooke that his behaviour was for her own good. Then she discovers the man she’s head over heels in love with is disloyal. Or is he really? Well, be prepared folks because if you thought the plot was filled with unanswered questions, now it’s going to get much much more complicated.

Quote: “Brooke’s like no other woman I’ve ever met. For all I know, she might just throw it at my head when she finds out what I’m really up to.”

When Brooke does a runner, she literally jumps out of the fire and into the frying pan. Carrying Jett’s child doesn’t help either. There is no doubt in my mind that the author has worked hard at developing Brook’s character. Even though the tough is going to get tougher, she doesn’t shy away from extremely unpleasant happenings and decides to do something about it. Brooke’s decision to confront Jett had me jumping up and down for joy. “About time too!” I said to myself. Talk about the scorching hot scene in between confessions and explanations isn’t in it! This couples’ amorous get together was dynamite! However, the outcome of their tête-à-tête left me more confused than ever. Jett annoyed me immensely when he claims she is the only love of his life but then says he’s going to get on his bike; metaphorically speaking of course, for an unlimited time! I mean, what’s this guy’s game?

Quote: “Jett, our relationship’s not what bothers me. It’s all the secrets you’re keeping that destroy us.”

So to say the ending left me intrigued would be an understatement. It certainly looks like Brooke is being setup and if she is, who’s behind it? I was a little let down by Jett’s mucho macho character in this book. Probably because he was hardly around while his lady was doing everything in her power to make sense of a dire situation. He makes her his, swears true love, even pays off her debt, but is as evasive as always. Hmm… I felt his reasoning for not being by her side a little on the weak side. Or maybe, just maybe, this guy has got something up his sleeve! I’ll have to be patient and hopefully all my doubts will be cleared up in The Lover’s Proposal due out this spring.

Quote: “Maybe the real question you should ask is not why Jett paid off your debts, but rather what he wants in return?”

This well written read revolves around the thoughts and points of view of only one protagonist which the author has done splendidly. I did find some passages a tad repetitive at times. Nevertheless, as we have little or no real idea how Jett feels deep down, or what is going to happen to either of them in the future, the carrot dangled in front of my nose has only made me hungry for more! Bravo to you, Ms Reed!

Quote: “Mine,” he whispered. “You’ll always be mine, Brooke. As I will be yours. And that’s my promise.”
