I still have the dreams, baby. Do you?
In mine, I plead and wait for your touch to come like it always did.
But it never does.
I strain against the iron, but you’re no longer there in the shadows.
I’m alone.
One single shard of deep dark hope was enough back then.
Not now.
My claws, your fangs have sunk deep.
Follow my trail of blood,
my trail of anger, desolation.
Am I the same man?
Soul dark,
Heart dense,
Blood fierce,
Purpose raw.
Flame burning.
Brewed on vengeance,
laced with tenderness,
my fury for you.

Chained in brutal darkness, they fell in love. Free in the world, they were torn apart. Empires rise, empires fall, and still, she burns in his soul. But between them now runs a wild river of ambition, greed, and blood. So much blood. He’ll do anything for revenge, and she’ll do anything to protect him. Love and vengeance are the same kind of savage…

No holds barred, Ms Porter has told a story which quite honestly left me speechless. Before I even reached the end of the prologue, I came to an abrupt halt and not because I didn’t like what I’d read. Quite the reverse actually. Firstly, I saw a significant change in her writing style. A style that can only be described as poetic in its free verse form. But from chapter one onwards, I felt a shift in her storytelling technique; in fact, so much so that I didn’t know where to put myself. My thoughts were all over the place… what the heck had I just read? Is this the same author who wrote four books in the Lock & Key series? Never ever was I expecting it to be so raw, so intense. I was spellbound and mortified all at the same time.

“I’m always leaving and never getting anywhere. In my dreams or here, right now, it just doesn’t matter, does it? Look at us…”

I thought the author had taken a risk introducing totally new characters around a third into the story. Reflecting, this tactic worked well as not only did I look at the story from a different angle, but it also distracted me from what had previously happened in some seriously antsy scenarios. Saying that, what the author had done was lull me into a false sense of security. I relaxed…and shouldn’t have!

“You appreciate my professional talents?”
“I admire them from afar.”

Reviewing Fury was quite a challenge for various reasons. I felt I as if I’d been pulled through an emotional wringer in the first half of Finger and Serena’s story. Explicitly aggressive sex scenes affected me; others were too frequent for my liking and although I would have preferred more build up, I can’t say they weren’t lacking in passion. Especially one. One I actually re-read as I found it beyond touching.

“… I don’t want to struggle or cry or be afraid. Not tonight. Not now. This might be all we have left together. When we leave tomorrow, this is what I want to remember and take with me…”

In the second half of their story, I loved the way the story’s direction moved forward bringing most of the characters together from other books in the series. It was for me, like coming home and I’ll be eternally grateful to the author for being able to create that deja vu feeling I experienced. Meeting up with memorable cameos from the Lock & Key series was a real treat, and I’m sure will delight Porter fans as much as me.

“…Today we say goodbye for however long, maybe forever.”
“That’s not true. We’ll have another day and another and another. We’re gonna make it happen.”
“Until then… please.”

It wasn’t easy watching the kid grow into the man he is today. I’d already meet him in Iron & Bone; however, in Fury Finger narrates all his feelings and frustrations in such a way my heart hurt. His sheer tenacity, patience, and ability to love hard and forgive harder in tough times won me over. Sacrifices are made by both him and Serena. They’d made ineffable magic together but in its fragility, all I could do was hope it wouldn’t break, that they’d eventually find what they wanted. Mentioning no names, another lovely young lady also kept my hopes high.

“I want you in my life— you are. You will always be in my life— but I need to keep moving forward. We both do.”

Lenore. I was first introduced to this headstrong woman in Lock & Key. Now I was given the opportunity to get to know her much better; the reason why she’d changed her name, gone
where she had and done what she did. A born fighter, a survivor, a protector. A good friend to her friends…she was the perfect heroine in a read where there’s much more than just biker gang rivalry.

“What do you want from me?”

There’s nothing kissy-lovey-huggy-dovey about this novel which can easily be read as a standalone. The author’s gone to great lengths to make sure the reader enjoys it to the full without getting confused by past events or names! The time span is a long one and not even the smallest detail has been left out, so fasten your seat belts ‘cause it’s going to be a bumpy ride!

“I’ve been bleeding all these years, Lenore. Leaving a trail of blood everywhere I go. What about you? You left a trail?”

In all honesty, I was going to rate Fury 3.5 stars since I found it a tad long-winded in parts. Yet after taking into consideration the sublime character development, the flowing and realistic banter, a solid plot and its moderately comfortable pace, this epic saga deserves four furious stars. And how could I not mention the ending after all the ups and downs, twists and turns and hidden secrets! Once again, speechless! Ms. Porter, Bravo!

About the Author

Cat Porter was born and raised in New York City, but also spent a few years in Europe, Texas and the suburbs along the way. As an introverted, only child, she had very big, but very secret dreams for herself. She graduated from Vassar College, was a struggling actress, an art gallery girl, special events planner, freelance writer, and had all sorts of other crazy jobs all hours of the day and night to help make those dreams come true. She has two children’s books traditionally published under her maiden name. She now lives in Greece with her husband and three children, and freaks out regularly and still daydreams way too much. She is addicted to old movies, the History Channel, her iPad, her husband’s homemade red wine, really dark chocolate, and her Nespresso coffee machine. Writing keeps her somewhat sane, extremely happy, and a productive member of society. If you enjoy character driven epic tales, her books are for you.
