Destiny is bogus and fate is fake.
Everything happens for a reason?
I gave up on my fairy tale years ago.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not settling for less.
All my energy gets poured into a job I love rather than dead end relationships.
Men aren’t even a blip on my radar these days.
Who needs them?
Except to scratch the occasional itch, I’m not interested in anything they have to offer.

If so-called Cupid ever comes knocking on my door, I’ll be waiting with my flying pig because happily ever after doesn’t exist.
I’ve become a jaded disbeliever and my main reason just sauntered into the bar.
Rowen Sworr is the only arrow that pierced my heart, and dammit, he stuck.

His random reappearance is a complicated twist from that meddling matchmaker I didn’t see coming…

Forget You Not is the second standalone in the interconnected Reclusive Novel Series.

3.5 Stars ~ Reviewed by Anna Green on behalf of KFF

This is my first read from this author but is the second book of the Reclusive Novel although can be read on its own.  This is a love at first sight/second chance romance written in dual points of view and in which some of the secondary characters are from the first book and play considerable roles in this story.

Lark was working as a waitress in Brack’s Box when she met Rowen for the first time. They immediately felt the connection but their special moment was cut short. Seven years later they met again but Lark has acquired a lot of emotional baggage and Rowen who was in the military is now back and aims to win her trust.

The first half of the book was quite slow to my liking. Lark who is now in her twenties is the bitter, untrusting heroine who is not into relationships. “I kissed a lot of frogs during my search for “Mister Right” and with each failed attempt at finding love, my sensitive heart hardened and I became bitter. Metaphorical scars marred my body from each time I was burned by a man. Every let down felt like another lash ripping away my hope and belief in happily ever after.” How can Rowen convince her that everything is different the second time around and to give him a second chance?

Rowen is a very likeable guy and I give him an A + for his efforts to win back the girl. Sweet, romantic and persistent, he will make you swoon. Their best friends Willow and Xander who were the main characters in the first Reclusive Novel, Redefining Us are both connected to Lark and Rowen’s tale. All throughout the book everything was hearts and roses and hot sex, too smooth sailing and borderline boring but the story kicked it up a notch during the last 20% of the book. The story flowed smoothly, the main characters’ banter a bit clichéd but the sex is quite hot so it’s worth a read. The story flowed smoothly, the main characters’ banter a bit clichéd but the sex is quite hot so it’s worth a read.

Lark shoots me a glare before asking, “What are you doing here?”
The venom in her voice is probably meant to scare me away but all I hear is come closer. I’m totally mesmerized.
“Hey, Sweetheart. I said you’d be seeing me soon. Figured I’d stop by and say hello in person.” I make sure to keep my tone calm but my skin inches with heat at the fire burning from her gaze.
“And I told you to leave me alone unless you’re ready to give me what I want.” She shifts her stare down to my groin while raising an expectant brow. “Is that what you’ve brought me?” She lifts her scorching eyes back to my face and seductively bites into her bottom lip.
Her sass is tantalizing but it’s the beauty underneath I’m truly after. “Sorry to disappoint you but that’s not why I’m here, Vix. I want to discuss some stuff, relating to us.”
“Vix? As in the vapor rub?”
An amused chuckle bounces up my throat. “Nah, short for Vixen.”
She seems to mull it over with a slight tilt of her head. “I suppose that’s fitting, though you don’t need to be handing out nicknames. Tell me, what could we possibly have to talk about?”
“No idle chit-chat first? I’m hoping we can get to know each other. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you since the other night and this sexy librarian look you’re rocking is hot as hell, but it’s more than that. Are you willing to hear me out? Maybe make an exception for me?”
A frustrated sigh answers my question. “I don’t have the patience for this, Rowen. I’m very busy here and you’re wasting my time.”
I lean against the door, trying to show I’m not ready to leave quite yet. “Answer me this. Where did you work when you were younger? Let’s say seven years ago?”
Lark glances away before shuffling some papers into piles. Her fidgeting makes me smile because now I’m certain she remembers just fine. A barely-there blush blooms on her cheeks while she continues avoiding my question. I wait her out and soon enough she graces me with a response.
“I don’t see how that’s any of your business.” Her deflection causes me to edge forward a bit, as though we need to be closer. She speaks to the depths of my soul, no matter if she gives me sass or softness.
“I’m trying here, Vix. Want to help me out? Did you work at Brack’s Box during the summer of 2010? Maybe a guy stopped in on a random July afternoon and stumbled over his words in your stunning presence. Do you remember that?”
Lark is still avoiding eye contact but I hear her whispered yes as if she shouted it across the room.

REVIEW ~ UNFAIR CATCH by Kelsie Stelting

Title: Unfair Catch

Author: Kelsie Stelting

Series: Savannah’s Story #1 (The Texas Sun Series)

Cover created by Vallum

Release Date: 14th September, 2017

Get ready to fall in love all over again—with self-discovery, handsome cowboys, and the unbreakable bonds of female friendship.

After losing her dream job in Austin, Savannah Dondi has to do the unthinkable—move back to her small hometown. Living minutes from her parents and working in her aunt’s beauty parlor isn’t exactly the glamorous life she had planned.
When she sees Hudson McAllister at the local rodeo, he’s even better than she remembered. Tall, lean, and clinging to a bucking horse. She only wishes she’d held onto him so tightly.

Her misguided feelings for Rhett Lane had ruined it then, and if she doesn’t stop herself from falling back in love with Rhett, he’ll come between her and Hudson this time too. Avoiding him in a small town will be hard, though. Especially since their best friends are in love.

A second chance with Hudson would make all her troubles worth it, but resisting Rhett might be more than Savannah bargained for.

What a breath of fresh air! My first book by this author, I was pleasantly surprised because I actually enjoyed reading this sweet NA romance. It feels like it’s been ages since I read one. There are no explicit sex scenes in this book and some characters have a come-to-Jesus moment the reason why I find this book refreshing and a welcome break from most books I’ve read recently.

Written in first person narrative, the story revolves around twenty two year old Savannah, a hairdresser who dreamt of a successful career in the big city but failed. She has no choice but to pack her bags and go back to her hometown, not looking forward to meeting the two men in her past, Hudson and Rhett. This is a love triangle involving two hot cowboys and a somewhat confused and indecisive young lady. There are times when I felt so frustrated with Savannah’s actions and the decisions she makes in life. Her best friend Cas always has her back though but when Cas’ life goes on a different direction from hers their friendship takes a nosedive. Oh to be young and not think of the consequences and feeling invincible. At first I was rooting for her to get back with Hudson but then there is also Rhett who she was involved with in the past.  I do feel for Savannah and her pain, I really do but girl, you need to put your big girl pants on and face the music.

I like the author’s writing style and the way her characters develop throughout the story. Her words perfectly portray the recklessness and vulnerability of youth, their imperfections and growth. And the author is quite brave in making one of her characters a devout Catholic because in these times when an author’s work implies a hint of spirituality it puts off a lot of romance loving readers. In fact throughout the whole book the author is quite consistent in her style without being too pushy about the subject, and I admire her for that. Hats off to you, Ms. Stelting!

If you are into love triangles, sexy cowboys and don’t mind the lack of torrid sex scenes, then I recommend you give this book a try. It’s worth a read!

They call him The Mute for a reason.

Five Scandalously Merited Stars

Reviewed by Sharon Thérèse

Shen writes a mean story and Scandalous is of no exception! Ooh my, the addictive tension created flowing at a fast pace, heightened the emotional stakes for two protagonists whose unwavering conflict seemed to have no let up… and I blinkin’ loved it! Result; their miscues provoked me to flip the pages faster than fast since I was dying to find out what the next manoeuvre would be. But well before reaching the end which I have to say, blew my mind away, seeds of doubt were sown in such a way, making me truly wonder whether either of them were capable of coming out unscathed. I have to mention the cover. Bare torsos have been trending for a long while and I can’t say I’m a huge fan; however, not only is this guy seriously cut, but you’ll also appreciate why Shen has chosen this model as you get into the story.

Edie and Trent’s game isn’t cat and mouse, it’s soooo much more than this. In a complex plot, their battle of wits causes friction and even more confusion. Of course, forgetting an important factor, the HotHoles, was a crime in itself and didn’t help matters. If you’ve read previous Sinners of Saint books, you’ll know they always have each other’s back. So why then, did I make this careless error? Theirs is such an all-consuming story that I felt as if I were there alongside this unlikely couple. The HotHoles took second place until of course, they popped up at just the right moment.

For me, Edie owned this story. I loved her dress sense, the way she shirked the norm. She was also the culprit of my many conundrums. She’d had to grow up quickly, she’s beyond her years and not for the want, but for harsh circumstances no young person should have to experience. With the world weighing on her shoulders, her only escape was a pastime frowned upon by a tyrant who really got my hackles up and uncomfortably close to home for my liking. No names here folks ‘cause I’d hate to spoil the story! Although what she was forced to do horrified me, I found myself constantly rooting for her. And her feelings regarding the well-being of certain family members is nothing less than heart-melting; but that being said, some scenes left me sniffling.

Trent. The mute. The self-made man. Blinkin’ heck! I found it difficult to put my thoughts together because, whilst he came across as standoffish, uncompromising and a his mannerisms a tad aggressive, behind his tough facade, lies a beautiful man. And drop-dead gorgeous, too! There were times I thought his actions were wrong, then again, they shouted louder than words, words he had trouble expressing. Trent was dealt a bad hand in the past and he doesn’t want to be bitten again. Not all is forgotten though and him fighting for what he wants in the present takes up a good part of the story. Him playing with fire didn’t scandalise me, either. He’s well aware what he’s doing and despite trying to reason with himself, he can’t stop. On the other hand, the card he played was bloody marvellous, yet it seemed he had everything to lose and prepared for the worst. Yep, the ace he has up his sleeve simply wowed me! And swooning over his adoration for Luna… Trent’s life revolves around her, showing me he was a real softy at heart.

It wasn’t an easy read for me in the respect that in all its rawness, emotions I didn’t think I had in me were brought out tenfold. If Shen’s character development was off the charts, nailing the chemistry between Trent and Edie was sublimely well done. The author’s message to the reader is you don’t need to have a luxurious lifestyle to find happiness. And however selfish, devious or cruel third parties are, love and the pillars of solid friendship rules. Narrated from a dual point of view gave Trent and Edie a distinctly different perspective, their banter incredibly well-thought-out. I truly couldn’t fault Scandalous. Bravo Shen!

KFF’s 5 Review

About LJ Shen:

L.J. Shen is an International #1 best-selling author of Contemporary Romance and New Adult novels. She lives in Northern California with her husband, young son and chubby cat.

Before she’d settled down, L.J. (who thinks referring to herself in the third person is really silly, by the way) traveled the world, and collected friends from all across the globe. Friends who’d be happy to report that she is a rubbish companion, always forgets peoples’ birthdays and never sends Christmas cards.

She enjoys the simple things in life, like spending time with her family and friends, reading, HBO, Netflix and internet-stalking Stephen James. She reads between three to five books a week and firmly believes Crocs shoes and mullets should be outlawed.
