We govern with broken wings, using fear and beauty as our weapons.
Through inherited traditions, each of us are born to play individual parts in our reign. In previous years, the transition has been calm.
Until our generation is unveiled.
Newcomers step forward to wreak havoc amongst us. Secrets are revealed, loyalties are tested, and the dark truth of our town is forced into the light.
Townspeople, prepare to meet your judge, jury, and executioner.
We are the Angels of Belle Meade.
We’ll be coming for you.

With the number of books I read, it is difficult to find a premise that is new to me. New adult paranormal romance with so many new spins, I felt a little dizzy at times.

Lennox, Amilee, and Emerson have a strong bonded friendship, one that has stood the test of time. That is until they reach their nineteenth birthday and things change…dramatically.
The premise of the Angels is more like: Judge, Jury, Executioner for the town of Belle Meade, and this is as far as I’m going into this because I want you to experience it for the first time whilst reading.

Belle Meade, to me, is built on secrets and lies. The girls had no idea what was underneath their feet for most of this book and what they were told was spoon fed to them in small noses.

Edric and his family are very unusual characters. It took me a considerable amount of time to figure out what on earth was going on with them. He was the kind of character I wanted to sink my teeth into and get to grips with. His attraction to Lennox was swift and profound.

‘On the third step, I peek over my shoulder. Could he stare any harder at me?
“You aren’t going to kill me, are you?”
“If I were going to, do you think I’d let you know? Murderers don’t advertise. They lurk in the dark, waiting to pounce on their victim, listening to their blood race through their veins, desperate to spill it.”’

Lennox has so many issues to overcome throughout this book that at times I just wanted to put her in my pocket. Her mother is a right act, and I don’t mean in a good way.

This is a new author for me and I’d not be lying if I said I wanted very much to read some more of what she has. Thank you for a new take on something I didn’t think could be done any different. Well done and bravo.

One of the windows looks out over Belle Meade. Every landmark is easy to spot from this vantage point. Main Street lined with cars. Shoppers buzzing in and out of stores. City Hall packed with business suits.Across from us is a telescope. When I move toward it, Edric blocks my path. I place my hand low on his stomach and stand on my tiptoes, knowing it will distract him.“Let me take a peek, Edric.” My lips feather his skin.“Be my guest.” He moves out of my way, and I walk past him, breathing in a lungful of air scented with his cologne. The cedarwood isn’t too strong but enough to grab my attention.I place my eye up to the eyepiece and gasp. I jerk back, only to return for another look.“It’s on my house.”“It’s not what you think.” He wrings his hands together, but guilt doesn’t fall from his face like I half-expect.“Why?”“Why, what?”“Why is your telescope pointed at the Mayor’s Manor? Specifically, why is it pointed at my bedroom window?”“Curiosity.” He releases a long, annoyed breath.“You’re a Peeping Tom.” A deep scowl creases my forehead. Edric’s been watching me.

“Call it whatever you want, Lennox. I wanted to look at you, so I did.” He runs his thumb over his bottom lip and smirks.

The news should scare me. His viewing me in secret doesn’t elicit fear, though, and I’m not sure why. I want him to watch me, to see me. Maybe he’ll be the first person who finally does, even if it is in the creepiest way possible.

On the other hand, it’s an invasion of my privacy. “What have you seen?” I ask, because even though I shouldn’t get giddy from the idea, a thrill runs through me.

“Just a girl, who sometimes seems to struggle with who she is. So, she writes in her journal a lot, because it’s the only place she can tell her true fears and desires.” He shakes his head. Is he fearful of what he’ll say next? “I’d give anything to know the secrets you whisper into those pages, Lennox.”

Lindsey Iler has had her feet planted in the state of Michigan since she was born and she still lives there with her husband and four kids.

When she’s not writing, she’s spending time with family and friends, listening to music, reading (obviously), and hopefully just enjoying every moment in life. She has a twisted sense of humor and tends to speak honestly.

Lindsey writes mature young adult/new adult contemporary romance. She falls in love with every character that pops into her head and is notorious for writing long chapters in her notes on her iPhone. It’s embarrassing how many started/unfinished projects are on that thing. She finds inspiration from music and the people around her.

#Brazilliant adventure tour?

The final post from our #brazilliant adventures with @thegiftboxbr on my Facebook page and Kindle Friends Forever or in Portuguese at The Gift Box Blog

It’s an early start as authors and volunteers head over to the Gift Day event. Hundreds of readers from all over Brazil are already standing in line, and I just want to start! The adrenaline begins to flow and I can’t wait to meet everyone.

Stu and Gergo are on my table, lucky me, a thorn flanked by two roses.

We’re expecting hugs, and we’re not disappointed. There’s a special Brazilian hug, I think, that’s so tight it’s hard to breathe, but completely heart-felt.

Many readers bring chocolate (I must have mentioned my love of chocolate once or twice), and the lovely Leticia brings me a soft toy dog named Pip because I’d said I was missing her. That has me welling up.

Both Stu and Gergo are showered with gifts, and for Gergo especially, it’s a day full of wonderful moments and surprises as he experiences his first Brazilian book signing.

EXPLOSIVO sells out, but that’s because the printer didn’t send enough books. One of the headaches for the Gift Box team. Along the way, they’ve had cancelled venues, cancelled flights, and an Author who had to pull out just days before the event. They even worked until 4am the night before to iron out the final problems.

The day is long, with signing from 9am to 8pm with two breaks. It’s a test of stamina for volunteers and readers as well as authors. Our two translators Carol Sales and Carol Dias work tirelessly, and we even learn a few Portuguese words and phrases along the way.

By the end, We’re exhausted, but happy.

And then it’s one final challenge after the event, we sign copies of PARA VOCÊ (For You) for our publisher for another long hour before taking the minibus back to the hotel to pack our cases.

🇧🇷 DAY 13 ~ THE LAST DAY 🇧🇷

Back on the minibus and heading for the airport. We have time to stop for brunch at the beautiful Art Nouveau Confeitaria Colombo. Enormous crystal mirrors and French stained glass windows add to the elegance. Founded in 1894, the cafe is part of the Cultural and Artistic Heritage of Rio de Janeiro. It was a meeting point for artists, politicians and intellectuals – including Olavo Bilac, Rui Barbosa, Villa-Lobos, Chiquinha Gonzaga, among others.

I feel I should order English tea, but I have iced moccachino instead. The cake display is something else sadly not gluten free, so I can only look.

Last stop before the airport is Real Cabinet Portuguese. Founded May 14, 1837, the Office was created with the intention of offering the resident patricians access to the publications of their country. The Royal Portuguese Reading Office has a collection of 350,000 works by Portuguese authors outside Portugal. It smells of old books and history, and I love it.

And then we have to say goodbye to new friends, leaving behind the sunshine and hugs to head home to rainy England.

I’m ready to see my family again, but we’ve all had an amazing experience on our #brazilliant adventures ❤️🇧🇷

Thank you, Gift Box Team!!

Boa leitura! Happy reading!!

Eliza Michel is asked for a favour by the dean of students at the Boston University where she attends. What she didn’t bank on was being asked to tutor Owen Dawson, the quarterback for the university football team. A good-looking guy with a promising future playing for the NFL, he is everything the girls want except Eliza isn’t drawn into that. A popular guy with a reputation as all the football players for The Boston Terriers have. It’s apparent when they start working together that they enjoy each other’s company. Eliza sees Owen in a different light, not what she was expecting at all. Nonetheless, she doesn’t want to get too attached and risk her heart being broken.

Eliza is a nerd and has been through some heartbreaking events in the past, so she keeps herself very guarded. Owen is a good-looking guy that has made some terrible mistakes in his life and now has to focus on his school work before he jeopardises his future at the university. They become closer and Owen manages to talk Eliza to go on a date with him. Eliza is apprehensive but so intrigued, she agrees.

The banter between the two had me smiling and I was really rooting for the two of them. I thought the story would be a slow build up to a new developing sweet romance; however, I wasn’t expecting the twists and turns I got. Their pasts I guess would inevitably catch up with them, especially as I’d discovered things before the actual characters had. I thought something which had happened in the beginning could come back to haunt the pair but just as one hurdle was jumped, another came along. Reading Jock was a roller-coaster of emotions I never expected for a moment. From tears to laughter, even to stomach-churning angst, exhausting me with all the feelings evoked.

The Boston Terriers series has introduced me to likable and interesting characters and whilst they are all stand-alones, it’s advisable to read all of the books if you are a sport’s fan. There’s a crossover of characters which will give you an insight into what they are all about. I loved that we got to glimpse at Owen and Eliza’s families and there were some very funny moments mixed with banter which I loved. The epilogue was a brilliant insight into their lives, making me grin while reading it.

Reading Mr. Chance’s work is always a pleasure and you never know exactly what you are going to get. I was totally invested in Jock as soon as I’d read the prologue. The writing style captured my imagination and I felt every word paramount to the incredible storytelling we’re treated to. I can’t say how much I’m looking forward to the very last instalment of the Boston Terriers and although it will be sad to see the last of them, I’m sure I will do a re-read of the whole series in the future. A very well-deserved 5-star rating and I urge potential new readers to one-click if you like sports romances with a little something different added.
