USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author M. Robinson brings her readers the first coming of age, enemies-to-lovers contemporary romance filled with angst and all the feels new in the Love Hurts Duet, Hated You Then
I couldn’t remember a time before her… Harley Jameson.
Before she owned me.
Hated Me.
Needed me.
Before I hated her…
Things were simple.
We had an understanding.
Bully. Fight. Hate. It’s what we did.
Mind. Body. Soul. It’s how we loved.
I thought nothing would ever change that, until everything did.
She was mine.
Always had been.
Always would be.
Nothing altered that.
Not how much I hated her.
Not how much she hated me.
Especially, not how much I hated…
That I LOVED her.

This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed her writing style. Before I jumped into this story, I did a little research and was warned that the author is well-known for her cliffhanger endings. Little did I know that this one has a massive one so be warned!
Harley Jameson is her father’s favourite and can’t do any wrong in his eyes. She is a sassy, mouthy little princess. Her little MC kingdom would have been perfect if her enemy Jackson wasn’t in it. She can’t stand him and has hated him to her core since they were toddlers.
Jackson Pierce is the eldest of two sons of a surgeon who is close friends with Harley’s family. He is his mother’s favourite son. He cannot resist winding Harley up every time they see each other and he always gets her in trouble.
Narrated from dual points of view from when Harley was six years old and Jackson was seven, this coming-of-age story chronicles the misadventures, the wind-ups and the pains of growing up. The author flawlessly captures the angst of teenage life and when Jackson’s almost perfect family life is suddenly shattered. Oh boy, I felt this boy’s heartache and loss, my heart bled for him. Amidst all this turmoil his feelings for Harley seesaws from hatred to something akin to love! And Harley despite her hatred of Jackson, becomes his anchor to reality. The writing in this book has excellent pacing and character development and grips your attention from start to finish.
The secondary characters as I found out, had their own stories in the Good Ol’ Boys series and I would love to read the stories of Jackson’s and Harley’s parents and their friends. I am truly gutted that I have to wait for a few more months before I find out what happens to this pair. These two have a lot of growing up to do but then they are only teenagers so they need to learn from their mistakes and whilst reading their antics, there were times when I wanted to reach inside my kindle and bang their heads together. This new-to-me author is a revelation and I am very impressed. I would totally recommend this book.
