BLOG TOUR                                           BAD by LP LOVELL & STEVIE J. COLE

An All-New Dark Mafia Romance from LP Lovell and Stevie J. Cole

True power is never held by good men, only the most perfect of villains. And she and I are both villains…

I stole her, and she’s so very angry. The cartel princess doesn’t like being a pretty little pawn. She fights me when she should fear me. But oh, how her defiance excites me.

She would kill me if she could, and I’d ruin her if I had an ounce less control. What a twisted game we play with sweet threats and cruel promises. I crave her madness in the most depraved ways because I know she’ll be so beautiful when she bleeds.

A queen who could set the world on fire and a king who would call it rain. Two very bad people who want very bad things are never safe together.

Some love stories have no heroes.

Another blood thirsty from the delectable duo that is Stevie J Cole and LP Lovell. Oh, how they craft such tales of madness and mayhem that satisfies the dark readers palette. This pair offer and exceed expectations every time they come together. If you’ve read and been following Jude and Tor through Wrong, Wire and War (The Wrath Trilogy) then you’ll know exactly who Ronan Cole and Camilla Estrada is and you’ll have been waiting with baited breath for their story. Bad does not disappoint.

Ronan Cole…he’s no bookie. For me, he didn’t light a candle to the likes of Jude Pearson but I think that lies in the fact that the ‘Russian’ is more controlled, more calculated. Isn’t fuelled by that raw passion we all know called love. There’s a restraint in his actions, for the most part, and I felt a little disconnect with him. Camilla Estrada (Gabe’s sister) is the epitome of strength. What she brings to Ronan Cole’s table confuses him, but he never takes his eye off the goal – she’s a pawn to use and he cleverly figured her role out at the beginning, which made her a commodity he wanted to bend to his will. And she does…but with her own agenda.

This book is not for the squeamish, which is really a given if you know these author’s work. You can expect to read brutal scenes of violence in all their gory details, I’d be disappointed if they hadn’t written it that way in all honesty.

A gripping read, only let down by the fact that I didn’t feel the desperate intensity of previous books and thus fell flat in places for me. Was I looking for a man to fall in love with a woman and chaos to ensue? No, but I expected a softening so when I reached the end I was surprised. Loved the cliffhanger – it’s a doozy – and suited the conclusion for now. I do wait eagerly for the next instalment.

As always, these authors write seamlessly together. You can’t tell who is writing what part, even when you know how they write together. To me that is something special, these authors connect in such a fantastic way.

So, a four-star review for me. I hate comparing books to previous ones, but it can’t be helped with Bad because the story is essentially a continuation. Give me some intensity and passion instead of control and plans and you’ll hook me into five stars for book two. Highly recommended if you like your dark reads. These women rock the genre!

I’m really enjoying the books in this series, this is officially the second but there is another which ties in with the Hollywood A-List books. It’s quite funny really, how much I like these I mean. Because this kind of book isn’t my normal type of read. I think the author has thrown in just enough of a suspense angle to keep me hooked. Bodyguard, unfortunately, is the least of my favourites.

First off, the story is great. The author always manages to sneak a plot thread into her books that knocks me off kilter and this time it was Phin. I remember saying that when she writes these threads, I get it instantly, but they hurt my heart. Bodyguard is no exception. I liked the pace at which the story flowed, it felt in keeping with the length of the book and didn’t at all feel rushed or lost momentum. Not an overly unique story, perhaps individual elements are but it didn’t read like a done to death trope which is always a bonus. What I did find lacking was the magic. After recently reading Prince Roman I was very aware of the lack of spark. In writing and character.

This is where my four-star rating comes in. The characters. Carter and Emily. I felt an awful big disconnect with them both and I think it stunted my enjoyment for the book. My CD Reiss reads are normally five stars, for good reason but Carter appeared really wooden, I didn’t make much of him, still felt he was a relatively closed book until the end. And Emily…I don’t know, I wasn’t a fan of the woman for no particular reason. I felt her a little wishy-washy, bit clingy maybe but I didn’t find me rooting as hard for them as I have for CD’s characters in the past.

So, a tricky one for me. I enjoyed it, but didn’t love it and that’s okay for me. It’s CD Reiss – of course we’re going to recommend. If she isn’t a one click author for you, you’re missing out.

“Are we going to have another ‘about last night’ conversation?” I asked.

“If you want to.”

What did I want to say? Everything. but mostly, I wanted to tell him how much I liked kissing him and how conflicted I was. I wanted to demand answers immediately and give him space at the same time.

All the words tried to jump forward, but when he stopped at a light, our eyes met in the rearview. The words landed in a tangle, unsaid.

He tapped the steering wheel when he turned it, using both hands for the first time since I’d gotten in.

“Hey,” I said.

“Yeah?” He briefly looked at me in the mirror.

“What happened to your hand?”

“Burn.” he brushed his left hand over the bandage at the top of his palm, right where you’d burn it if you were picking up a hot pot handle. He caught my eye in the rearview again.

I didn’t know if I believed him.

“What were you cooking?”

“And you still went to get a Danish?”

He rubbed his upper lip with his left hand and tapped the wheel with the bandaged one.

“I burned my eggs.”

Right. Hot pot. Burned hand. Smoke-filled kitchen.

“You know what’s funny?” I said.

The Three Stooges.”

“I don’t know anything about you. You could live in your mother’s basement.”

“That’s just where I bury the bodies.”

Blatant avoidance. It had been cute before; now it was getting on my nerves.

“Are you married?”

He could have been lying, buy lying liars always lied. There wasn’t a thing I could do about that except make sure I asked.

Something was wrong. We’d kissed twice, and twice he’d shut down. I should have been the one shutting down. I was the one with all the ex-boyfriend baggage. Why was I the one who was always so willing?

But there he was in the front seat, driving with both hands on the wheel, glancing at me once in a while to make sure I wasn’t choking on my tongue in the back seat. Discomfort radiated out of him.

Here I was with my hands in my lap thinking about ways to kiss him again.

He pulled into the little lot and wedged into a space. He turned off the car, popped his seat belt, and stared at the wheel for a split second too long. I was about to open the car door myself when he turned all the way around, arm over the back of his seat, bandaged hand on the back of the passenger side.

“Kissing you…” He stopped and looked at my lips so intensely I folded them back and bit them. “You’re dangerous. I can’t even see your lips, but I can taste them. I couldn’t brush the taste of you out of my mouth this morning. Right now. The honey. I can taste it but not enough. I want to kiss you again, and I can’t. I lose my shit around you. I can’t do it. My job is control. Do you understand what I’m saying?”

My jaw loosened, and I let my lips go.

“No, I don’t. I’ve met bodyguards before. You’re a stoic bunch, but you’re not all celibate. And if you think this is easy for me, you’re wrong. I’m afraid too. I’m afraid you’re going to get hurt because of me. last night…” I put my fingertips to my lips as if that would keep the choking sob from coming. I kept it back. “Last night he showed me he’s back, and if he’ll hurt me, he’ll hurt you.”

If I thought seats would be a barrier between us, I was wrong. He launched himself between them and placed his lips on mine. Our third kiss was unexpected, uncomfortable with him stretched between front and back. I wove my fingers in his hair, giving him my mouth, and taking his.

I wanted that kiss to tell him it was all right. He could lose control. He could bemore than a protector. He was as safe with me as I was with him. But I couldn’t without lying to both of us.

He yanked his lips away.

“Trust me.” He leaned his forehead against mine.

About the Author

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

REVIEW BLITZ ~ DEFIANT QUEEN                                      by MEGHAN MARCH

The Mount Trilogy continues with Defiant Queen…

I’m his entertainment. His toy. Payment on a debt.

I tell myself I hate him, but every time he walks into the room, my body betrays me. How can I want him and fear him in the same moment?

They told me he’d mess with my head. Make it go to war with my body.

But I didn’t realize it would be complete anarchy.

I should’ve known better. When Mount’s involved, there are no rules.

I will not surrender. I will not show weakness. I’ll stand my ground and make it out of this bargain with my heart and soul intact.

But he has other plans . . .

Defiant Queen is the second book of the Mount Trilogy. Mount and Keira’s story concludes in Sinful Empire.

Meghan March may have well as read me the story then punched me in the face on the last page. I don’t often start a review with the ending of a book but my word, I can’t help it. The author’s parting shot still rings in my ears, much like the scene that ended book two of the Mount Trilogy. If you have a craving for an excellent cliff hanger – then all your prayers are answered here. I loved it, it’s been so long since a cliffy delivered that kind of hit, one you need to revel in.

Defiant Queen picks up exactly where Ruthless King left off so there’s no waiting around or trying to piece parts of the story together. What I wasn’t so keen on in book one, mellows a little in this offering – namely Lachlan. I’ve said it before; I’m not a huge fan of the dominant, controlling alpha males in books and Lachlan Mount is all that and more. When he sees something he wants, he takes. He makes it happen and he’s had poor Kiera Kilgore in his sights an awfully long time. What I found with his character in book two, was a softening. More emotion played a part for him and while Kiera is finding her backbone, Lachlan appears to be falling for her. He’s careful not to show it, doesn’t particularly like it but it’s the inevitable down slide for him I think. Kiera is going to bring him to his knees in most spectacular fashion.

The author has written this wonderfully, seamlessly knitting together quite a few plot twists and beginning to unravel an intriguing storyline that will hold the attention of the reader from start to finish. There’s plenty of action which is described with intricacy so often times you ‘felt’ the scene unfolding around you. Emotions run heightened throughout although I didn’t feel an overbearing sense of oversaturation and they didn’t pull full weight until right at the end.

I can’t wait for book three. I think it’s going to be explosive – for all the right reasons. Will Lachlan get his HEA?? I’m not sure, but it’s going to be fun reading the rest of their journey. Hugely recommended, I can’t fault this book or author in the slightest. Bring on Sinful Empire – and quickly, please!!

To have her in my debt.
She doesn’t know she caught my attention.
She should’ve been more careful.
I’m going to own her. Consume her. Maybe even keep her.
It’s time to collect what I’m owed.

I totally enjoyed listening to King of Code on audio so the promise of a side story from that book made me a little giddy. I do so enjoy these bite sized stories offered in the 1,001 Nights collections. If you haven’t read either King of Code or the 1,001 Nights novella’s, you need to go take a look. There is a plethora of top notch authors that write these and are of the highest standard.

Whilst Taylor Harden makes an appearance in Prince Roman, he is not the focus of the story. No, CD Reiss brings us the assistant and her search for love in all the wrong places. Raven can’t help herself when it comes to messing around with men at work, an occupational hazard as she works in a predominantly man’s world. I love that the author centred this story around women’s employment rights, it seemed to suit the background of Raven Crosby perfectly. When she meets Roman Bianchi, it sends her into a tail spin and how she keeps her cool is perfect.

But, as we all know – you can’t keep a good man down and that’s exactly what Roman Bianchi is. A good man (and a little bit dirty), hungry for Partner position within his company yet not so hungry that he leaves Raven out to dry. Their story unfolds at a quick pace (as it’s a short) and it’s difficult to make these things work. CD Reiss makes every scene count, every sentence matter, every word earns its place in this cleverly crafted novella. I think my favourite scene is their first lunch (I won’t spoil) but it set up the rest of the story for me, a little glint of what was to come and right enough, their relationship snowballed from that point.

I thoroughly enjoyed this offering from an author I hold in high esteem. King of Code was a challenge that she executed with perfection – Prince Roman is a little icing on the cake. Because this book is so short, and I craved more I’d normally down star my rating, but I simply can’t. Prince Roman is sublime and fast-paced and yes, not enough for me, but I can’t fault the writing nor the storyline, so I must give it the full star treatment.

Pick up this book, find some more 1,001 Nights novellas, they are a treat in themselves from your favourite authors. Recommended reading, especially if you like this author.

If Raven Crosby hadn’t picked up some hacking tips from QI4, I’d eat my shoe.

She’d left as they were growing. Kept her stock options. That never happens. She was also still friendly with Taylor Harden, the hacker brain behind QI4’s quantum system.

I figured they’d parted on good terms. Maybe with something hanging over Taylor’s head.

My team ended up with a few folders on her. I told myself I was a lawyer. Collecting data on people was what I did for a living.

But this was different.

A week in, I was obsessed with her ebony hair and eyes. Lashes drawn on with black Sharpie. Her voice was hypnotic in meetings, and was only heard after long stretches of listening. The night before, she’d tipped her hand, showing me that she’d peeled the curtain back to get intel on me. I didn’t feel violated as much as vindicated. The attraction was mutual. She wouldn’t have done it for any other reason.

“I’ll be there at eight,” I said to my sister, Teagan. We had a dinner planned half an hour before, but I didn’t want to go. It wasn’t the rain that pounded on the windows. It wasn’t my sister. Teagan was fine, but the office was empty and Raven was right across the hall, working in the glow of a desk lamp.

“You better be,” she said. “I’m starving and I need to get drunk.”

“Get a head start at the bar.”

“I’m not going to sit at the end of the bar by myself with a drink. Do you even know what it’s like out there for a girl?”

I didn’t know firsthand, obviously, but I knew enough from her. Teagan was a career gamer and game designer. One of the best. She had a sweet, harmless face that made her approachable to even the most beta of betas. Regardless, even the betas tried to compete with her once they knew what she did. I was exhausted on her behalf.

Across the hall, Raven stood and clicked off her desk lamp.

“Leaving now,” I said, cutting the call. I grabbed my things and headed out, timing it perfectly so we met in the hall.

“Hi,” I said.

She nodded and gave me a non-committal smile. We spoke often, but never a word that didn’t have to do with the human resources software implementation and how it would protect Neuronet from liability.

“It’s raining,” I said. “You taking the elevator to the parking lot?”

The executive lot was underground, on the other side of campus. If you wanted to get there underground, without crossing the courtyard and getting rained on, you had to take the elevator.

“Yes.” She started down the hall and I followed.

“I’ll walk you.”

3.5 Stars ~ Reviewed by Klaire Sutherland on behalf of KFF

I do so love these authors, I’ve read many a book by the pair and, apart from one, I have enjoyed immensely. Reservations is most certainly entertaining, but it didn’t live up to their previous work. I wasn’t really a fan of the cover right from the start, after reading the book I have to grudgingly admit it probably fits the book. It feels a bit gimmicky to me – which I found some of the story.

I liked Levi far more than I did Thane, in truth the more I read the less I liked Thane. I found his character extremely elitist and pushy – incredibly pushy. Levi was a different kettle of fish altogether and I really did like his character, he had a fair amount of integrity about him that was really difficult to overlook. So yes, my heart softened for Levi.

The storyline was engrossing for the most part but as mentioned earlier, I found some parts really quite gimmicky and maybe…cheesy. It was hard to take some scenes seriously and I wondered if Kindle Alexander have perhaps lost their midas touch. Plenty ‘moments’ in Reservations catch the readers emotions yet overall the plot fell a little flat in places. (Remember – I don’t spoil!)

The family dimension is a regular theme to these authors books and I absolutely loved Levi’s brothers and how they all interacted with one another in Reservations. If there is one thing that shone bright from the pages of the book – it was this plot thread. I think it gave a more human angle rather than just some hot chemistry and some chasing. I think without that integral theme there wouldn’t have been all that much to shore the story up and it would have fallen into plain erotica.

Anyway, I did enjoy and I would recommend but I don’t feel this is their best work and I was disappointed a little by that.

Best Selling Author Kindle Alexander is an innovative writer, and a genre-crosser who writes classic fantasy, romance, suspense, and erotica in both the male/male and male/female genres. It’s always a surprise to see what’s coming next!

I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it’s true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women’s hair!
Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life – I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations – regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal… I don’t want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I’m going to tell you about Kindle.

I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I’ll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died – weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn’t have to be alone.

That time in my life was terrible. It’s everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.

Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness – it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.

Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn’t a time she wasn’t there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It’s its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn’t be here today without her.

A broken woman . . .

Crystal learned long ago that love brings only pain. Feeling nothing at all is far better than being hurt again. She guards her wounded heart behind a hard exterior and carries within her a deep mistrust of men, who, in her experience, have only ever used and taken.

A man in need of help . . .

Then Gabriel Dalton walks into her life. Despite the terrible darkness of his past, there’s an undeniable goodness in him. And even though she knows the cost, Crystal finds herself drawn to Gabriel. His quiet strength is wearing down her defenses and his gentle patience is causing her to question everything she thought she knew.

Only love can mend a shattered heart . . .

Crystal and Gabriel never imagined that the world, which had stolen everything from them, would bring them a deep love like this. Except fate will only take them so far, and now the choice is theirs: Harden their hearts once again or find the courage to shed their painful pasts.

Most of All You is such a beautifully, sad but uplifting book. Written in true Mia Sheridan style, it was an easy book to get lost in. This author has always had a way with words, the emotions she evokes from readers always comes to the fore when you pick up her books. Not an initial page turner for me, even though the prologue is heart wrenching, but more of a slow dive into a rapturous story. I didn’t devour this book, but I find all Mia Sheridan’s reads are the same – like an unhurried walk through the park – I use my time to take in my surroundings.

Gabriel and Crystal’s story is quite unique and I absolutely appreciated that it was. No cookie cutter, guilty pleasure read here. A well thought our plot with engaging characters throughout. Two broken people finding something they never thought they would in one another. Both have horrendous paths, live a wary life but converge to find themselves in one another, their road is not an easy one.

I granted this four stars as I felt a little let down with the direction in which the author took Gabriel – more like what wasn’t said, I think. The character development lacked here for me. While Most of All You is very much about Gabriel and Crystal’s life in the here and now, I felt that very little attention was made to Gabriel’s experience in his past. It was very specific and the detail, for me, was lacking. I was left looking for more detail to that point in his life.

Can’t fault Mia Sheridan’s writing, as always, her descriptive imagery is quite astounding, bringing the reader into the fold with a lexicon of scenery. I didn’t find this book as engrossing as some of her earlier. Most of All You has a very sweet edge to it despite its dark themes, perhaps a little too sweet for my tooth. Very much worth the read, however.

Mia Sheridan is a New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestselling author. Her passion is weaving true love stories about people destined to be together. Mia lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with her husband. They have four children here on earth and one in heaven.

Review Blitz :: Ruthless King (Mount Trilogy #1) by Meghan March

Get ready for the darker and dirtier side of New Orleans with a brand new alpha romance from USA Today bestselling author Meghan March.

New Orleans belongs to me.
You don’t know my name, but I control everything you see—and all the things you don’t.
My reach knows no bounds, and my demands are always met.
I didn’t need to loan money to a failing family distillery, but it amuses me to have them in my debt.
To have her in my debt.
She doesn’t know she caught my attention.
She should’ve been more careful.
I’m going to own her. Consume her. Maybe even keep her.
It’s time to collect what I’m owed.
Keira Kilgore, you’re now the property of Lachlan Mount.

*Ruthless King is book one of the Mount Trilogy*

~ 4 Stars ~

I’m no stranger to this author’s work and was eagerly awaiting the first book in this new series, Ruthless King, after a little tease and cameo at the end of her last series – Beneath the Truth. What I wasn’t quite expecting was how different this felt to Meghan March’s other work (granted I haven’t read it all), there’s a real edge to this first book of the Mount Trilogy.

First off, I loved the setting of Ruthless King; the old brewery of Keira’s and the sprawling residence of Lachlan’s. At times I could almost imagine I smelt those old whisky vats. Decadent. These places also lent to accentuate the dark undertone to this story. The basement rooms, the long winding corridors, Keira’s blindness as to where she was being led. Again – a dark edge.

So, I liked this very much. It oozed tension and fear and pulled me along at a fantastic pace. I was never bored, nor did I want to skip anything. Always a bonus for me. I did have trouble with Lachlan. I’m not sure if, at this point, if I like him. Egotistical is a word far too lame for him yet without swearing, I can’t think of another. The author gives us very limited information about the man, intentional or not – I’ve yet to decide. It perhaps went a long way to enhance the secrecy that revolves around Lachlan Mount. Whatever it is, I think it worked. I’m not sure we are meant to like him at this juncture. Keira is a fantastic character, a spine of steel and determination but even she gets ruffled in her ministrations with her ‘debt collector.’ The chemistry between the two is explosive, the push and pull between the pair is written extremely well, and you want more!

As this is the first book in a trilogy, a cliff hanger is a pre-requisite and one I relished. I caught wind to it a little early, I have to say, but waiting to see how it would play out was enticing. Surely Meghan March threw the cat among the pigeons with this one.

Can’t wait for book two. I think it will be as good as the first, the angst and fireworks will perhaps melt into something a bit less superficial and Mount might actually loosen up a little. Would be nice to see Keira with the upper hand. Highly recommended read from an outstanding author, who is fast becoming a favourite of mine.

Return to the Island is book two of The Island Duet, you cannot read this is a standalone in any capacity. I really loved the first book, but coming away from this one has left me with very mixed feelings. The story is different from that of Redemption Island (book one) and on reflection I understand why. The scenery moved – in a big way; a huge pivotal shift in location. Outside influences that were never there really in book one, come into play in book two. Obviously, the whole tone of Return to the Island is going to shift. I’m not sure if it worked for me.

Tack bothered me. I wasn’t a huge fan of his in the first book anyway, he took some warming up for me to like him. In Return to the Island I wasn’t a fan again. This time, however, there was no warming up. I still didn’t like him at the end of the book. He’s pushy and arrogant and not in a very endearing way. Yes, he mellows around Juliet, but he still held that air of control I wasn’t all that sure about. Many a time I questioned him and his actions. I did like Juliet more in this book. I felt she had found herself a little more than she had in the first.

Balance – it’s crucial to keep a plot going. I found Return to the Island veered more toward plot driven than character driven. Not sure if this was the author’s intention or not. I felt I didn’t particularly learn anything more about the two main characters in all honesty. Once they had reconnected I felt a slide. As in the plot seemed to be – scene, sex, scene, sex for a little while. Some of the sexual scenes were unnecessary. It often felt like Tack wanted to get his jollies off ALL the time. It kind of ruined it a little for me. And Juliet ‘purred’ far, far too much. It’s a word you notice a lot when it’s used repetitively.

Abby’s contribution to the story was not enough. Yes, she created friction and conflict but it didn’t feel convincing, and I found this sub plot quite weak. I kept waiting for Abby to do something big and drastic and well…no, kind of petered out and left me scratching my head a little as to why the author didn’t capitalise more on the character and that particular sub plot.

So, for about half the book I was enthralled and loving it and lost in these two characters trying to reconnect. Then, I don’t know. Return to the Island seemed to lose its pizzazz. I had been oohing and ahing to a reader friend about the book in one breath then feeling some disappointment in the next.

LB Dunbar’s writing is astonishing in places. I was absolutely bowled over with some of her descriptive narrative. Lord, when Juliet is in the shower and her soapy suds are hitting the shower floor – I could imagine it, hear the noises in my head – all down to the way the words were written. I love that kind of writing and this author can take scenes and inject a little magic into them no problem. Initially the dialogue was engaging and holding my attention. LB Dunbar uses a lot of dialogue tags and at times they spoiled the natural flow of the dialogue for me, and was less engaging.

Return to the Island is still a great book. A highly anticipated conclusion to Redemption Island, but it reads very different. I didn’t think it packed the same breath-taking punch as book one for a myriad of reasons. However, I’d still very much recommend this book. LB Dunbar’s storytelling skills are second to none.

And I had to have her.
All of her.

Falling in love in the back of a truck, just the two of us, was easy.

Loving Storm is not a standalone, it is a continuation of the first book in Carian Cole’s Ashes and Embers series. So, if you haven’t read the first you will need to go back and do so. It’s absolutely no hardship as Strom is a great book. It had been so long since I’d read it that I actually went back and did a re-read (something I don’t do).

I forgot how sweet their story was to be honest and it was fantastic to get a continuation and see how Evie and Storm ended up. I loved that Evie was a lot surer in her attitude and it seemed she’d come on leaps and bounds, with the help of Storm. This couple were destined for a Happy Ever After. Loving Storm is exactly that.

Really, there isn’t all that much to say on this book except it’s enjoyable and an easy read. Die hard Ashes and Embers fans will love it. There’s some extremely low angst in there, nothing that makes you want to throw your Kindle, and a whole lot of love.

What I did notice was how far Carian Cole has come as a writer from that very first Ashes and Embers book. You can feel the author is comfortable in her skin with the series characters and did an excellent job writing this. The reason for the four stars is only because it lacked a little ‘oomph’ for me. I guess I’m not all that used to sweet reads and this is exactly what Loving Storm is. Highly recommended, and if you haven’t had the pleasure of reading this series, or any of this author’s work for that matter, you best be taking a look. You’re missing out on some fantastic stories.

Thoroughly enjoyable read. I was really pleased with All or Nothing. My last few reads by Felice Stevens have been a mixed bag. The author always seems to start off really strong, but I often felt the story petered out and fell flat in the last third. Not so with this one. It held up its momentum from beginning to end. A worthy four stars, as much as I enjoyed reading, it didn’t set me alight – excuse the pun.

I had some problems with connecting to Rico. I found him to be a bit aloof and disconnected to his situation with Adam at times. His attitude was often unnecessarily harsh and I ended up feeling quite sorry for Adam. It made for a quite good angsty plot line but at times he came off as a complete douche. Rico wasn’t hiding in the closet exactly, yet I felt he wasn’t all that interested in making his sexual orientation known. Disappointing his father seemed like an ‘excuse’ for me that didn’t hold a lot of water. I liked how that sub plot worked out, even if it did seem a little quick.

Adam, I liked. No matter how he tried to shuck off his feelings for Rico, he wore them firmly on his sleeve for all to see. I found him to be a little over sensitive. I’m not sure if the way Felice Stevens wrote Adam’s character was a little underdeveloped, or the subjects Adam dealt with were too difficult too properly address in this kind of book. He certainly had a lot on his shoulders, and the author kept throwing more at him.

Adam and Rico’s relationship was very up and down emotionally, but scorching hot between the sheets. I’m not sure if it was proportional to plot or not, considering the whole initial basis of their getting together was to warm each other’s beds, no strings attached.

I think you get a well-rounded read from Felice Stevens in All or Nothing. Her descriptive narrative is second to none, she brought New York and its neighbourhoods to life. I loved the underlying Jewish theme and I certainly learnt something from reading this book. Bonus points for that, Felice. All or Nothing is a lot of book for your money, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

“I don’t know why it’s been so hard to forget this. I should become numb to it like the other guys.”

“That’s not who you are. You care about people. It’s why you do your job so well.”

Surprised at Rico’s insight, Adam gave him a shy smile. “I didn’t think you noticed.”

“I noticed.”

The song ended, yet they remained on the dance floor, with Rico half-hidden in the shadows, silent yet with a presence so overpowering, Adam couldn’t help but be drawn to him. Rico reached up, grasped the nape of his neck, and pressed their mouths together, and as always, it took only the touch of those firm lips to crumble his defenses. They remained on the dance floor, kissing until the sound of whistles and clapping brought Adam back to reality.

Shrugging it off, Rico took his hand, and they returned to the bar, where their burgers awaited them. That revelation by Rico had shaken Adam, and he chewed and swallowed his food, sneaking sideways glances at Rico, frustrated at his inability to gain any sense of Rico’s thoughts behind that neutral mask.

“So how long have you two been dating?” Dale wiped up the counter, getting rid of their empty plates.

Holding his breath, Adam waited for Rico to answer.

“It’s not like that. We’re friends.”

“Yeah.” Adam gave Dale a weak grin, but by the bartender’s dubious expression and quirked dark brow, Rico’s explanation didn’t go far toward convincing Dale.

“Whatever you say, Rico.” He set a fresh foamy glass of beer in front of each of them. “Here’s to your kind of friendship. I’d like to find it for myself.”

“I need to settle the check. Here’s my card.” Rico scowled and flicked the card over to Dale, then took a long drink, finishing half his beer in one gulp. Not once had he looked at Adam since they’d sat down from dancing.

Unsure what to do or say, Adam sat quietly and finished off his drink while Rico signed the receipt. When Rico got up to leave, Adam followed his lead and shook Dale’s hand.

“Thanks for everything.”

“No, thank you. And take care of him. He’s kind of a mess.”

“You coming?” Rico’s face was a storm of emotions.

Without responding to Dale, Adam hurried outside to join Rico, who’d already left. “Rico, wait up.”

Rico halted and turned, his face no less dark than earlier, but Adam recalled his words on the dance floor.

“Uh, thanks for dinner. Do you want—”

“Come back with me?” Rico crowded close, his breath smelling sharp from the beer, and Adam wanted to taste his tongue. “Spend the night?”

While in Leary’s, Adam hadn’t been certain he’d be invited back to Rico’s, but he wasn’t about to question his luck right now.

“Yeah, if you want.”

Rico ran his nose down Adam’s cheek, and goosebumps prickled up his arms despite the warmth of the evening.

“I want,” Rico whispered. “I want you.”
