Bowen’s done it again with Moonlighter, the first novel in her brand new series, The Company. Not only was it a joy to read, it felt like going home. Meeting up with some of the hockey players I’d learnt to love in the Brooklyn Bruisers books was a huge plus and very well executed. The new reader won’t be the slightest bit confused either; however, adding them to your to-be-read list is a must. This stand-alone romance is even more action-packed than ever. Fast-paced and well-researched alarming facts had me on the edge of my seat and I was convinced I knew who was causing so much unrest but get this, I was wrong! Nine times out of ten I’m not, so I’m giving Sarina a Kudo for the suspenseful plot twist.

How could I not fall for Alex? Sharp-minded, quick-witted and not afraid of a hard day’s work, I really liked the way she treats her employees. She has a great relationship with her dad too, and although she’s the CEO of the firm he’d founded, she’s turned it around and made it one of the most successful and competitive companies in its field. Yet she’s still got to answer to the board of directors who are a tad sceptical about her new venture. Her invention is a real scene-stealer and although it has to be taken seriously, I couldn’t help chuckling to myself in a couple of scenarios which even got me wanting to try it out. You see, it’s a fan-blinking-tastic idea and with all the goings-on in the hacker world, this could just be the answer.

“Certainly, my liege!”
Albeit short-lived, Alex and Eric Bayer had become friends as youngsters. So when there’s a misunderstanding years later, she could have hidden under a rock. Fast-forward and they meet up again and well, the sparks of attraction start to ignite. To Alex’s surprise and much to Eric’s chagrin, he’s cajoled into helping out his brother for the summer, making sure that she’s protected from an unknown threat. And ooh boy, do things get complicated at a long weekend conference in all aspects!

Swoon ladies, swoon! Maybe you’ve already met Eric so you know what he’s like. A tad grumpy, he doesn’t just rub up Alex to the point of frustration, his brother’s also on the receiving end. Max has been asking him to join his security company for ages but hockey is Eric’s life. Deadset on getting back on the ice, never did he expect events to take such a turn. Hmm, neither did Alex and here I shall say little else except their love story ticked all my boxes!

Moonlighter is simply perfect. Bowen’s character development, secondary included, illuminates a read which deserves all the stars. The banter is out of this world, and plenty of humour, tension and steaminess kept me stuck to the pages from beginning to end without coming up for a breather I cannot wait to see if it’s going to be Max’s turn next because he is the bee’s knees in persona. Bravo!
